The Backstory
At 28, Rashad was an award-winning artist from Maryland who had been living his dream life in every way but romantically.

Even though he grew up with a strong relationship model (his parents have been happily married for over 37 years) he noticed that many of the men he dated struggled with the basics. They often lacked emotional maturity, avoided conflict, or weren’t serious enough. But Rashad had an inkling that his own habits might be preventing him from having the relationship he desired.

“Something just hasn’t been clicking. I realized the common denominator is me… and since my way hasn’t been working, I figured working with a professional was the logical thing to do.” 

The Love Blocks

Rashad's biggest relationship readiness gaps were around emotional availability and the communication skills that bring it to life.

“I can admit that I’m more action-oriented than expressive, sometimes emotionally guarded, and have a tendency to be controlling or overly firm in my opinions.”

He wanted to learn how to be more nurturing, communicate with care, and create space for connection even in moments of difference.

The Breakthrough
Growing up with a strong relationship model doesn't automatically give you strong relationship skills. Watching healthy love and practicing healthy love are two different things…and the gap between the two is where many daters get stuck.

Together, we refined his communication patterns and restructured the way he approached intimacy. He practiced expressing affection more verbally, softening rigidity, and showing up with more emotional presence. As his dating skill level grew, so did his confidence and his capacity to create a truly reciprocal relationship.

The Bond
During our work together, Rashad made things official with Lake, a professional entertainer from Illinois. The two met in October 2017 and tied the knot in January 2024. Shortly after their first wedding anniversary, the couple was also selected to exchange vows during opening night of Tarell Alvin McCraney’s play, “We Are Gathered.”
